CANDIDATE FOR VP External
Hey there! I am Thien Vy, though my preferred name is Steve.
Allow me to rewind time to tell you why I am the ideal candidate for VP External.
My journey at NAIT began in 2016 in the trades as an electrical apprentice. Since then, I’ve been humbled by my experience as an engineering student and have now found my calling in the JR Shaw School of Business; helping individuals reach their full potential as others have seen in me. In my unrelenting journey of self-improvement, I plan to take you all with me.
Let’s fast-forward to 2023 when I hit a milestone: earning a Finance diploma at NAIT. My drive to have NAIT in my life grew. I persisted by becoming an OLT member with NAITSA and continuing my education as a BBA student. During my degree, I had the opportunity to be employed by the federal government. I trained under two departments: Transport Canada and Immigrations, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. Involvement with public service and catering to clients has fueled my desire to give NAIT students support they deserve. Combining my aspirations to support NAIT students with representation, I present myself as a 4th year BBA student for this imperative role in the Executive Council.
I have experience and education from municipal, provincial, and federal.
The VP External focuses on advocacy and external relations by representing students at all levels of government. Born and raised in Canada across Manitoba, British Columbia, and Alberta, I am dedicated to advocating students’ voices where they matter most. As VP External, I would vocalize students’ interests and concerns throughout campus and during various government events. From my experience and education, I have seen and heard issues from coworkers and peers from all walks of life. Growth is ongoing, and I will be poised to advocate for the student body.
Your vote counts on the U-pass Referendum.
I want to address a choice for all NAIT Students. The current 2021-2024 U-Pass Agreements expire on August 31, 2025. We ask for your vote on whether we should keep or remove the U-pass agreement. Ultimately, everyone pays, or no one pays. There are strong opinions about the U-pass over the years. I encourage students to consider their current financial needs, their peers, and the value of students who require the use of transit. Your opportunity to vote will take place from February 7-13, 2025, with the NAITSA Executive Council Election.
My persistent duty to represent the students
If I am elected, I will:
- Focus on advocacy and external relations
- Represent students to municipal, provincial, and federal governments
- Address emerging student needs and goals
Thank you for reading. Vote for Thien Vy!
