Teaira Current
CANDIDATE FOR VP Internal
Hi all! My name is Teaira, and I’m excited to announce my running for Vice President Internal of the NAIT Students’ Association. I have been a proud Ook since 2020, and during my time here, NAIT has provided many incredible opportunities and experiences that have shaped both my educational and personal growth. At this point, I would love nothing more than to give back by advocating for the student body to enhance our collective experience together at NAIT.
I’m a Visual Communications graduate of the DMIT program and am currently finishing my studies in the Business Administration Marketing program. My time at NAIT has been a journey of learning, both in and outside of the classroom. I have gained immersive campus life experience through my role as Social Media Coordinator of the NAIT Idea Marketing Club. In this role, I’ve been fortunate enough to build impactful connections and memories—some professional and others that have grown into lifelong friendships. Outside of NAIT, I’ve had the opportunity to lead initiatives close to my heart, further establish my leadership skills, and be granted awards for my work. These experiences have made my time at NAIT incredibly memorable, and I want to create the same opportunities for students to form their own impactful connections and moments through campus life, just as I have.
If elected VP Internal, my focus is to further enrich campus life by creating more opportunities for students to connect and thrive. Whether that be through on-campus events, clubs, or new initiatives, I want to foster a strong sense of community on campus. Additionally, I intend to advocate for the awareness of NAIT’s extensive list of student services and resources. From mental health support to career counselling, I hope to aid in creating a strong awareness of all the resources NAIT offers to support its students.
As an individual, I am a strong advocate for inclusivity, equality, and diversity, and I am dedicated to amplifying the voices of those who may not always be heard. I want to ensure every student feels seen, valued, and supported. As VP Internal, I will continuously listen to and echo the voice of the student body to ensure our campus reflects the needs and aspirations of its students.
I would also like to take this opportunity to remind students that their vote on the U-Pass is just as important. The current U-Pass contract expires in August 2025, and without it, transit prices could increase dramatically for students. The U-Pass vote is on the ballot before any candidate’s names are even listed, and I encourage everyone to take a moment to vote YES for the U-Pass. This vote will help ensure that public transit remains accessible and affordable for all NAIT students.
Thank you so much for taking the time to consider my candidacy. I would be truly honoured to give back to the NAIT student body by serving as your NAITSA Vice President Internal this upcoming term. I hope to earn your support!
