CANDIDATE FOR VP Academic

Hello, my fellow Ooks, I’m Salinderjit Kaur, and I am running for VP Academics. I am a 2nd year student in Business Administration Program in Management. You might have seen me around the campus volunteering for various events with NAITSA, IICC, Student Life, NSO or with NAIT Peer Mentorship Program. I am proud to say, “I am everywhere”. Ever since I have started studying here at NAIT, I have been involved on and off the campus, trying to learn about the organization, its resources and hone my skills like communication, leadership and teamwork and also to understand a diverse environment.

One of my best involvements is being a Student Representative in the Academic Council of NAIT, where my primary roles are to:

  • Vote on the important matters of academic programming at NAIT
  • Make recommendations to the Board of Governors about academic policy relating to the selection and admission of students, courses/ programs of study, academic awards and other academic matters.
  • I am also a part of the two of the sub-committees of the Academic Council: The Honorary Degree Committee and the Faculty Emeritus Committee.

I have been serving in the council for last 6 months, where I have gained a great insight on decision-making experience of the school and how the management works, more specifically Executive Council.

Apart from that I have been a House Captain and then a Head Girl in my High school and I have also served in the Volunteer Operations Committee in the Hockey Canada. During all of these different experiences, I have understood that an open communication, trust, patience, ability to listen, being flexible, acceptance, being knowledgeable and resourceful, and most importantly respect and empowering others are the keys to lead.

I want to acknowledge that NAIT is rich in diverse community, and I assure you that I believe in inclusivity. I understand that if I am being elected for the VP Academic role, I will be representing NAIT Student Association as one community, as a whole. I want to advocate for whatever concerns students may have. For me, all your concerns are valid. I will stay resourceful and inclusive in my decision-making process. I have seen students expressing concerns about the lack of the availability for the classes that are in-person. I know through my experience that the Academic Council works closely with NASA, and I assure you that I will be advocating for that and any other matter that students might face and you can contact me at my email: jitksalinder01@gmail.com to express or report any query or issue you have regarding academics.

I want my fellow Ooks to vote for me, someone who is experienced and confidence. I promise I will stay approachable.
