Katherine Hawn

CANDIDATE FOR VP Academic

Experienced. Prepared. Ready to Deliver.

I look forward to representing every NAIT student, and I’ve got the experience to hit the ground running on the issues that matter to you.

Some of my experiences that shape my perspectives in this role are as:

a graduate of two programs in the School of Media and IT

a School of Business student pursuing a degree in Business Administration – Management

a Continuing Education student with a Certificate of Achievement in Project Management

a student representative on NAIT’s Academic Council and Program Excellence Committee

a recipient of awards for student leadership including the Laurence Decore Scholarship (twice!)

a NAITSA volunteer as a Senate Meeting Assistant, Poll Clerk, Grant Reviewer, and more

an experienced professional with a background in education event coordination, accreditation, policy development, professional development, quality assurance and more

My causes are the key issues that matter to you. I’m listening. Some initiatives that speak to me are:

Mental Health Initiatives Relating to Academics
Mental health isn’t just about resilience through hardship, and navigating a post-secondary education doesn’t inherently have to be difficult.

As VP Academic, I’ll advocate for: fair, transparent, accessible, and consistent academic delivery.

Academic Integrity
The NAIT name will always be on our resumes, so it needs to mean that we’re skilled and qualified. When your credentials look good, so do everyone else’s. As NAIT is bringing focus to Academic Integrity we can advocate for fair policies that protect us and our credentials.

As VP Academic, I’ll advocate for: fair and consistent policies for appealing and documenting violations, and ensuring there’s protection for students who may be wrongly accused.

Representation In Whatever Comes Next
With the moving pieces of a post-secondary institution, we can’t always predict what changes are on the way. We always have a voice, so while we may not know what’s next, we do know that students need to be at the front of academic decisions.

As VP Academic, I’ll advocate for: students in each of NAIT’s 7 schools, in all programs, in every community, from every walk of life.

New semesters and school years are sure to bring new challenges and celebrations we’ll face together. Let’s start strong with an experienced VP Academic.

Vote Katherine (Kat) Hawn as your first choice for VP Academic!

Use your voice. No matter how you vote, make sure you do!

Best wishes for everyone during finals! You got this!
