CANDIDATE FOR VP Academic

Danielle Libunao for Vice President Academic: Driven to Listen & Determined to Lead

WHO AM I, AND WHY AM I RUNNING?

My name is Danielle Libunao, and I’m excited to announce my candidacy for the VP Academic position! I’m a fourth-year HR student with a deep commitment to serving and empowering our student community.

WHAT HAVE I DONE, AND HOW HAVE I SERVED YOU?

Over the past two years, I have had the privilege of serving as a NAITSA senator, and I currently sit on NAIT’s Board of Governors. These roles have given me a comprehensive understanding of how decisions are made and more importantly, how they affect students like you and me. Throughout my time in student leadership, I have never been afraid to ask the tough, thought-provoking questions to keep the Executive Council accountable and ensure that student needs remain a top priority. Now, I am ready to take that responsibility into my own hands as your next Vice President Academic. I am deeply passionate about making sure students feel supported in their programs, confident in the education they are receiving, and valued not just as learners, but as individuals.

WHAT NEEDS TO CHANGE, HOW CAN WE FIX IT?

One of the key issues I would love to address is the disconnect between students and instructors when it comes to feedback. Our traditional end-of-semester instructor surveys often fall short, where students may not complete them, and instructors rarely receive meaningful insights in time to make a difference before the next term. I want to ensure instructors have the right tools, training, and real-time feedback from students to improve how we engage and learn. NAIT is famously known for its asynchronous course offerings, which provide flexibility for students, but flexibility also requires better tools and support to ensure a high-quality learning experience. That’s why I am advocating for continuous feedback loops throughout each semester. These would allow students to share what’s working and what’s not while the course is in session. This creates space for real-time adjustments, stronger engagement, and an overall better academic experience. Whether it’s through small group discussions, in-class check-ins, or other formats, feedback should always be a conversation, not something that can be checked off in a box.

WHERE ARE WE HEADED, AND HOW WILL I REPRESENT YOU?

This isn’t just about fixing courses, it’s about improving NAIT’s culture of communication, respect, and collaboration across all programs. I’m committed to continuing the important work of past VPA’s by actively representing students on academic and policy committees, strengthening campus-wide communication, and making sure students remain at the center of every academic decision.

Thank you for taking the time to learn about my vision! If you have any questions or concerns, I would love to hear from you! Please feel free to connect with me on LinkedIn or send me an email at dlibunao2@nait.ca.

I’d be truly honoured to have your support and vote in this by-election.

VOTE DANIELLE LIBUNAO AS YOUR NEXT VP ACADEMIC!
