Emma Anderson

Howdy Humans!

My name is Emma Anderson (pronouns she/they) and I am running to be your next Vice President Academic (VPA). I am in my first year of a business administration diploma, but I am not new to post-secondary. I obtained a Bachelor of Science in April 2023 where I majored in psychology and minored in biological sciences. Psychology helped me find my love for administrative work, but I wanted a more direct career path than psychology gave me. This led me to NAIT’s business administration diploma program. Despite not being at this institution for long, I am familiar with it from my time serving students at NAITSA’s service hub and as a tour leader for student orientation. My interactions with students at service hub has helped me understand the needs of the student population and some of the struggles students face. New student orientation is something I volunteered for at university too, but at NAIT it exposed me to new challenges that incoming students face that I did not think about. My unique experiences make me a great candidate because I understand what students from other institutions face in terms of academic struggles and I can use this general information, along with current NAIT students’ voices, to advocate for the student body.

In addition to my education history, I am from a small town in Saskatchewan which gives me a better understanding of various student situations. Moving from a small town was a culture shock that forced me to be open minded about all situations and to step outside of my comfort zone. I have adapted to this through my university career, but it was a humbling experience that I am grateful for. This ten hour move away from what I knew shows that I can adapt in various situations and I can succeed despite the unexpected. These along with my love for organization are great traits for VPA. If elected, I will be committed to listen to as many voices as possible to understand the common issues students face academically and use that to advocate for solutions. We all came to NAIT to study something and we deserve an education that adapts with the changing student population. I would love to hear from you so do not hesitate to say hi in the hallways or email me at eanderson48@nait.ca. Oh, and don’t forget to vote Emma A for VPA February 9-15!
